SMO was really usable after the arrival of SP1 and especially SP2. I remember at the eve of Sql Server 2005, SMO was not really working with many bugs. Once they finalize the libraries I believe they'll have a similar distribution package to what they have for SQL 2005 SQL 2008 libraries and tools are still under development, and the SMO (and other) dll's which will be distributed with RTM will be enhanced from what we have at this point. The posted program illustrates how a bigger application uses SMO. I would like to use my existing application with SQL Server 20008 without rebuilding it. As soon as we know we will have it available.ĭo you mean adding location version 10 to refeferences (LIBPATH) in the developer studio? I don't know what that list is yet so don't ask. Of course it will also depend on if we changed the API in the area you are using. Most of these should be minor (additional references for example) but we aren't done yet so I don't know for sure all the changes required. However it will require you to make some changes to your application.

This will give you the full access to both the 2005 features and the 2008 features. SMO 2008 (the 10.0 version) will connect to a Sql Server 2005 or a 2008 server. A simple rule of thumb is if the equivilent 2005 TSQL would work on 2008, then the SMO features should work too. OK, there might be a couple of oddities that don't work but the all the mainstream stuff will just work. The 9.0 version of SMO will not expose the extra features that 2008 has, it will be the same API and just work against 2008. I'm trying to confirm the current availability of that, but it already should be available or will be for sure by RTM of 2008. SMO 2005 (the 9.0 version) will be updated so that it can connect to Sql Server 2008.

I am using Windows 2008 EE 32-bit.Īny assistance would be greatly appreciated, Why does not it use SQL SMO version 10 that is installed on the machine? I see the assmebly in the "C:\Windows\Assembly" folder and Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio works correctly. To turn this feature off, remove the registry value [HKLM\Software\Microsoft\FusĪs you can see that the application is looking for SQL SMO version 9. Note: There is some performance penalty associated with assembly bind failure lo To enable assembly bind failure logging, set the registry value [HKLM\Software\M WRN: Assembly binding logging is turned OFF. More info about this driver can be found at the Microsoft product page.I have a simple application that uses SQL SMO to print out version of the SQL Server. The driver supports applications written using earlier versions of ODBC in the manner defined in the ODBC 3.51 specification. The SQL Native Client ODBC driver complies with the Microsoft Win32 ODBC 3.51 specification. The SQL Native Client driver supports connecting to SQL 7.0 and later. The driver passes SQL statements to SQL Server and returns the results of the statements to the application. The SQL Server-specific versions of the ODBC functions are implemented in the SQL Native Client ODBC driver. Programs that are written using the SQL Native Client ODBC driver communicate with SQL Server through function calls. The driver is included in the "Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Feature Pack". The SQL Server Native Client 11.0 ODBC Driver was released with SQL Server 2012 and can access SQL Servers from 2005 and above. Include "Driver=" in the connection string to use this driver. The main functionality of the driver is contained in the file sqlncli10.dll. This ODBC Driver is provided by Microsoft.
